Graduate Development
Programme

The best possible start to your career.

We’re registered with the RCVS graduate development programme.

Every graduate that joins us has a dedicated mentor on hand to provide practical and emotional support and guidance, helping to guide you through your first 18 months of post-graduate practice.

Here’s what you can expect when you join us as a graduate:

Plentiful opportunities to master your GP skills

As a new graduate, building confidence comes with experience – and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop yours. With a varied caseload and the support of experienced colleagues around you, you’ll build strong foundations across all areas of first-opinion practice, developing your clinical skills at a pace that feels right for you.

Completing the RVCS programme

You’ll be fully supported as you work through the RCVS programme, with experienced colleagues and your dedicated VetGDP Adviser there to guide you along the way. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to put your learning into practice, reflect on your progress and build the skills and confidence you need to complete the programme successfully.

Exploring your clinical interests

Your graduate programme is just the beginning. As you build your confidence in general practice, we’ll encourage you to explore the areas of veterinary medicine that spark your interest. Whether you discover a passion for surgery, medicine, imaging or something else entirely, we’ll help you gain experience and start shaping a career that’s right for you.

Meet Graduate Development Programme Lead –
Dr Ashleigh Howells BVSc PGCert MRCVS

In my role as GDP Lead, my goal is to support our graduates, helping them enjoy their employment as newly qualified Vets. Through regular one-on-one meetings, group discussions, and social activities, I aim to collaborate with the graduates to create an open and supportive learning environment where they can thrive.

An insight into our Graduate Development Programme

Graduate Development Programme success story!

I graduated in 2023 and started at The Pet Vet Nottingham shortly after. I was involved in the graduate development programme, which helped me develop and improve in a variety of areas; including dentistry, ophthalmology and communication skills. I had monthly meetings with my graduate development coordinator which allowed me to discuss issues and get advice and feedback on my work.

Through this programme, I have built my confidence as a graduate Vet. I was able to complete my VetGDP in less than a year and I’m now embarking on a post-graduate certificate for small animal surgery.
